A major dispute has rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State following a call for Governor Mutfwang Caleb of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the APC. The call, which has sparked strong internal backlash, originated from the North-Central APC Forum led by Saleh Zazzaga.
Zazzaga’s group recently endorsed Governor Mutfwang for a second term, citing his commendable performance and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s development agenda.
The forum made this known after a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday night. It also declared its support for the Green Cap Movement—an initiative associated with Mutfwang—as a political platform for the 2027 governorship election. Furthermore, the group reaffirmed its endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term, praising his leadership so far.
However, this move has drawn sharp criticism from the APC Like Minds Political Forum, which described the endorsement as “reckless, malicious, and self-serving.” In a statement released by its spokesperson, Habibu Musa Sati, the group accused Zazzaga of undermining the APC’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Plateau State.
The Like Minds Forum questioned Zazzaga’s loyalty to the party, alleging he did not vote for the APC in the last general election. It also cited past controversies that, according to the forum, cast doubt on his credibility and intentions.
The group applauded the Plateau APC leadership under Rufus Bature for initiating a probe into Zazzaga’s actions and urged swift disciplinary measures. They also expressed confidence in Senator Simon Lalong and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, praising the latter’s reforms aimed at improving governance and benefiting Nigerians.
As the 2027 elections approach, internal party unity remains a pressing challenge for the APC in Plateau State.
