The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has empowered women farmers in Nasarawa State with N26 million to enhance food security and boost agricultural development.
The symbolic presentation, led by the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Silifat Sule, highlighted the crucial role of women and youth in driving sustainable agriculture.
Represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Tosin Sheila Akabe, she urged beneficiaries to make the most of the training and financial support to improve their farming productivity.
Each of the 13 women’s farming groups, drawn from all local government areas of the state, received N2 million to expand their agro-businesses.
State officials, including the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Princess Margaret Elayo, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Tanko Tunga, praised the initiative.
Prof. Ibrahim Haruna, a resource person at the training, encouraged farmers to adopt sustainable practices like homegrown gardens, organic manure, and protective netting to enhance productivity.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to food security, economic empowerment, and the overall agricultural sustainability of Nasarawa State.
