The Federal Government has ordered the withdrawal of charges against Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in an August 10 incident aboard an Ibom Air flight.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo announced the decision on Wednesday after consultations with key stakeholders in the aviation sector. The move comes days after Emmanson was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a flight attendant and clashing with security personnel at the airport.
Keyamo confirmed she was arraigned on criminal charges at Ikeja Magistrates’ Court but failed to provide sureties for bail. While condemning her actions, he also criticised the circulation of a viral video showing her in a compromised state, vowing action against the Ibom Air officials who leaked it.
The incident and her detention drew backlash from civil society groups, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and members of the public, who accused the airline and operators of mishandling the matter.
