Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, says the Federal Government is committed to ending strike actions in the education sector.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Alausa revealed that President Bola Tinubu has directed his team to prevent ASUU and other unions from embarking on further industrial actions.
“The President has directed that not again in this country will ASUU or any tertiary union go on strike,” Alausa stated.
He confirmed ongoing dialogue with ASUU, COEASU, NASU, and SSANU, adding that the government is fulfilling its agreements, a key failure of previous administrations.
The minister also debunked rumours of a looming nationwide strike, while noting the government’s reforms are already improving the global ranking of Nigerian universities.
This comes as ASUU’s Yobe State University branch officially called off its strike after reaching an MoU with the state government.
