The Federal Government has unveiled a revised national curriculum for junior and senior secondary schools, set to begin in September 2025.
Under the new plan, digital literacy and entrepreneurship will become compulsory subjects for junior secondary students, while coding and robotics will also be introduced at foundational levels.
At the senior secondary stage, the curriculum expands to include programming, artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity, alongside existing core subjects. Project-based learning will also be emphasised to strengthen practical skills.
According to the Ministry of Education, the reforms aim to align Nigeria’s schools with global trends, boost innovation, and equip students with skills for today’s digital economy. Implementation will involve teacher training, resource provision, and partnerships with the private sector to support infrastructure.
Education experts have hailed the move as a major step in tackling youth unemployment while preparing Nigerian students for opportunities in the global tech space.
