The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of blogger Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over allegations of “criminal defamation” against gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo.
Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna directed the Nigeria Police Force and other law enforcement agencies to apprehend VDM and present him before the court to respond to the allegations. The order was issued on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after the blogger failed to honor a court summons dated March 5, 2025.
The bench warrant stems from alleged defamatory statements made by VeryDarkMan on social media, where he accused Mercy Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and the alleged diversion of $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.
To counter these claims, Mercy Chinwo provided the court with documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, proving that VDM’s accusations were false and damaging to her public image and reputation.
This legal action follows a separate lawsuit filed by Chinwo’s legal team before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, demanding N1.1 billion in damages from VeryDarkMan. The suit also seeks an order mandating the blogger to delete all defamatory content and issue a public retraction and apology for the alleged false statements made against Mercy Chinwo and her brand.
