Chelsea stormed to a commanding 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final on Wednesday night in Wroclaw. Becoming the first club in history to win all four major European trophies Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, and the defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.
Despite a shaky start, Chelsea regrouped impressively after Abde Ezzalzouli’s ninth-minute opener gave Real Betis an early lead. The Moroccan forward capitalized on a midfield error by Malo Gusto to fire past Filip Jorgensen, stunning the Premier League side.
However, Chelsea came out of the break rejuvenated. Head coach Enzo Maresca introduced captain Reece James, replacing the struggling Gusto, and the Blues quickly took control.
Cole Palmer starred in the second half, creating back-to-back goals in five minutes. First assisting Enzo Fernandez with a pinpoint cross, then setting up Nicolas Jackson to make it 2-1.
Betis had no answer to Chelsea’s second-half dominance. Substitute Jadon Sancho sealed the win in the 83rd minute, finishing from a tight angle after combining with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Moises Caicedo then capped off the performance with a late fourth goal, adding gloss to an already dominant display. This triumph marks Chelsea’s first major silverware since the Todd Boehly-led consortium acquired the club in 2022, signaling a new chapter of success following the Roman Abramovich era.
The win also ends an incredible run of Spanish dominance in European finals prior to this match, Spanish teams had won the last 27 major men’s finals in which they participated.
While celebrations unfolded on the pitch, the city of Wroclaw saw fan clashes earlier in the day, with police confirming 28 arrests amid tensions between rival supporters.
Chelsea now return to London as historic quadruple European champions.
