The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued the Federal Government a fresh 24-hour ultimatum to meet its demands, warning of an immediate strike if unmet.
The decision followed a six-hour NEC meeting on Wednesday after the expiration of an earlier 10-day deadline. NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, said the government promised to act but stressed the need for immediate disbursement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and settlement of other arrears.
Key demands include:
- Payment of five months’ arrears from the 25–35% CONMESS review.
- Settlement of 2024 accoutrement allowance and specialist allowances.
- Recognition of West African postgraduate membership certificates.
- Implementation of the 2024 CONMESS and resolution of welfare issues in Kaduna and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.
Over 2,000 resident doctors are still awaiting their MRTF payments. NARD warned that failure to meet the demands by Friday would trigger an indefinite strike, a move liikely to cripple public healthcare services nationwide.
