A presentation given today at HR event emphasized the important role employee engagement plays in advancing an organization’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) goals.
The presentation covered the fundamentals of employee engagement, which involves making employees feel valued, respected, trusted, and that their work is meaningful. Research shows engaged employees are more productive, profitable, and committed to an organization’s success.

The presenter debunked common myths around employee engagement and DEIB, such as the ideas that it’s solely HR’s job or it requires a large budget. In reality, engagement happens through everyday interactions and requires an organization-wide effort.
Key employee “touchpoints” were highlighted where engagement and DEIB efforts converge, including recruitment, onboarding, events, learning, performance reviews, career development, compensation, and offboarding.

Fostering an inclusive culture where all employees feel they belong begins with leadership committing to DEIB, cultivating cultural intelligence and curiosity, and taking steps to remove bias. Ultimately, inclusion is a choice leaders must make daily.
The presenter emphasized that proper engagement across all levels is crucial for organizations to reap the benefits of diverse teams and create equitable opportunities for all employees to thrive.
