Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outperformed more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries—including students from native English-speaking nations—earning the top spot in a globally respected competition that tests English language skills, critical thinking, and communication.
Global Recognition for Nigeria and Yobe State
The TeenEagle competition is an internationally recognized academic contest designed to assess English proficiency among teens from both English and non-English-speaking countries. Nafisa’s historic win has not only brought pride to Nigeria but has also positioned Yobe State as a rising hub for academic excellence.
Her remarkable achievement was confirmed in a statement by her family’s head, Hassan Salifu, who credited her success to a combination of discipline, dedication, and strong educational support systems.
“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni,” Salifu said in an interview. “This achievement has brought international honour to our state and country.”
Defeating Native English Speakers
Nafisa’s victory stands out because she surpassed competitors from countries where English is the native language—a feat her family says showcases her brilliance, preparation, and the quality of education in Nigeria when adequately supported.
Celebration and Gratitude Across Yobe
Following the announcement, celebrations broke out in Yobe State and beyond, as proud Nigerians commended the young scholar for her exceptional performance on the world stage.
The family also extended their gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni and the staff of NTIC, stating that their continuous investment in quality education played a vital role in nurturing Nafisa’s academic journey.
“Nafisa’s win is not just a personal success; it is a national milestone. Governor Buni’s unwavering commitment to education has transformed schools in Yobe and brought Nigeria into global academic conversations,” the family added.
Why This Victory Matters
Nafisa’s win at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals reflects more than just academic brilliance—it is a powerful symbol of what is possible when young Nigerians are equipped with quality education and proper mentorship.
