Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has denied rumors suggesting he is set to join Leeds United. He stated that no negotiations have taken place between him and the English club.
The FC Porto left-back was recently linked with a move to Elland Road, with reports claiming he was being considered as a replacement for Junior Firpo. However, in a statement quoted by Goal, Sanusi refuted these claims:
“I am not in talks with Leeds United or any club at the moment. There have been no negotiations, and I have not received a four-year contract offer. The reports are false.”
Leeds United’s Transfer Plans and Sanusi’s Future
Speculation suggested that Leeds were preparing a €2 million bid for the Nigerian international, with alleged discussions already taking place with Porto regarding a potential deal until 2029. However, with Sanusi denying these reports, it remains unclear if Leeds will pursue the move.
Currently, Leeds United sits second in the Championship standings, trailing leaders Sheffield United by just two points. With Daniel Farke’s squad aiming for Premier League promotion. The club is said to be strategizing its summer transfer business whether they secure promotion or not. Given Firpo’s contract expiration this summer, Leeds is reportedly looking for a budget-friendly left-back option.
Sanusi’s Injury Struggles and Porto’s Uncertain Stance
The 26-year-old defender, who has earned 22 international caps for Nigeria, has had a challenging season at FC Porto. Managing only three league appearances due to an extended recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Despite being under contract until 2027, Porto has yet to decide whether they will part ways with him in the upcoming transfer window.
For now, Zaidu Sanusi remains focused on regaining full fitness and securing more playing time at Porto, while any potential move to England remains uncertain.
