Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has strongly denied reports alleging that he fraudulently allocated over 3,000 hectares of land in Abuja to his sons.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Wike described the allegations as a smear campaign, insisting that his children, like all Nigerian citizens, have a constitutional right to own land, provided it is acquired through due process.
“Assuming, though not conceding, my children applied for land, are they not citizens? Are they Ghanaians?” Wike questioned. “Even if they applied, are they not entitled because I’m a minister?”
Wike Rejects Claims of Land Deals in Maitama, Asokoro
Wike dismissed follow-up claims that he allocated land in the highbrow districts of Maitama and Asokoro to his sons. He challenged the credibility of the reports, asking critics to present evidence.
“Where in Maitama and Asokoro can you find 2,000 hectares of land? Bring the documents, bring empirical evidence,” he demanded.
The former Rivers State governor also suggested the false accusations originated from Adamawa State, accusing unnamed individuals of launching a politically motivated attack.
“I know where it is coming from. It is from Adamawa State. I am aware,” Wike said.
Minister Stands Firm
Wike concluded by affirming his stance on transparency and legal process, insisting that any land allocations made during his tenure follow established procedures and that no family ties influence official decisions.
