English Premier League side West Ham United are reportedly cooling their pursuit of Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika, turning their attention to DR Congo star Ngal’ayel Mukau.
Onyedika, 24, has been a standout performer for Club Brugge since his move from Danish club Midtjylland three years ago. The defensive midfielder has thrived under multiple managers, earning links to top European clubs, including a near move to AC Milan last year before they signed Youssouf Fofana.
This summer, speculation linked him with a switch to West Ham as manager Graham Potter seeks a strong defensive presence in midfield. However, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the Hammers have downgraded Onyedika’s priority, instead focusing on 20-year-old Mukau of Lille OSC.
Mukau, valued at €20 million, has impressed since joining Lille in 2024 with his close ball control, high work rate, and physical strength. Lille’s track record of producing elite midfielders—such as Amadou Onana, Renato Sanches, Idrissa Gueye, and Yves Bissouma—adds to his appeal for West Ham.
Despite the shift in focus, Onyedika remains on the club’s radar. Should negotiations for Mukau fail, the Nigerian could still become a target due to his similar playing style.
For now, Onyedika is set to remain a key figure at Club Brugge, aiming to help the Blauw-Zwart reclaim the Belgian Pro League title in the 2025/26 season.
