Popular Nigerian fashion stylist and influencer, Veekee James, has spoken candidly about how damaging false rumours almost drove her into depression. Appearing on the Nancy Isime Show with her husband, Femi Atere, Veekee revealed that one of the most painful stories she faced was the claim that she “snatched” her husband from a friend.
According to her, the narrative that she and Femi were romantically involved while he was still dating her friend was completely fabricated.
“It was a story about how I was stolen from a friend and we were sleeping with each other. They were all lies,” she explained.
Depression Struggles and the Role of Faith
The celebrity fashion entrepreneur admitted that the controversy almost plunged her into depression. She recounted isolating herself for two days, crying and praying for strength.
“That was the first time I truly understood what people dealing with depression feel. I begged God to help us so the lies wouldn’t ruin my brand,” she said.
Veekee James credited prayers and her Christian faith for pulling her out of that dark season, describing her recovery as nothing short of a miracle.
How Veekee Handles Online Trolls and Controversies
Beyond the marriage rumour, Veekee James also spoke about her approach to online trolls and social media backlash. She confessed that, unlike most celebrities who avoid reading comments, she chooses to face them directly.
“My brother advises me not to read the comments, but I insist. I go there to check—am I doing too much? Do I need to learn something?” she said.
The stylist explained that she uses feedback, even from harsh critics, as an opportunity to reflect and grow.
Marriage, Love, and Family Plans
On her marriage to Femi Atere, Veekee revealed that she had sought God’s confirmation before settling down.
“When I met Femi, I knew he was the one. I prayed and waited on God to confirm it. Once He did, my ears were blocked—forever,” she declared.
Looking ahead, Veekee James disclosed her plans for family life. She intends to raise children who will be visible, confident, and impactful in society—rather than shielding them from the public eye.
“I want kids who will be role models, who will show their talents to the world. I don’t have kids I’m going to hide,” she added.
Femi Atere: The Private Half of the Marriage
Meanwhile, her husband, Femi Atere, described himself as the more private partner in their relationship. He explained that he prefers to stay behind the scenes while supporting his wife’s career.
“I’m a BTS person. My wife is the spotlight; I’m reserved. Whatever people say online doesn’t bother me,” he said.
