Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured the families of the 16 slain hunters allegedly killed by a vigilante group in Uromi, Edo State, of full compensation. The hunters were reportedly on their way to Kano when the tragic incident occurred.
During a condolence visit to the victims’ families in Torankawa, Kano State, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf. Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing financial relief and justice for the affected families.
“We are making necessary arrangements to ensure that all the families affected by this unfortunate incident receive compensation,” Okpebholo stated.
He also lauded the people of Kano State for maintaining peace and avoiding retaliatory actions in response to the tragedy.“I appreciate the good people of Kano and the northern region for their restraint. And for not taking the law into their own hands,” he added.
The governor offered prayers for the departed souls and assured that those responsible would face justice.
“We are here to stand with the grieving families and assure them that the perpetrators will be held accountable. May Almighty God forgive the souls of the victims and grant them eternal rest,” he said.
Okpebholo further disclosed that Uromi security operatives had already arrested 14 suspects linked to the killings. He vowed to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of those responsible.“We will not rest until this case reaches its logical conclusion. Justice must be served,” he emphasized.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, echoed Okpebholo’s sentiments, pledging unwavering support in seeking justice for the victims.
“We are working closely with Governor Okpebholo to guarantee that all those involved are prosecuted accordingly,” Yusuf affirmed.
He also announced immediate relief efforts, including cash assistance and food supplies, for the grieving families.
“Our administration remains committed to ensuring that compensation reaches all affected families while we continue to pursue justice,” he added.
Both governors reassured the public of their dedication to maintaining peace and ensuring that justice prevails in this tragic case.
