Relations between Bangladesh and Nigeria have grown significantly in recent years, with bilateral trade soaring from $50 million to over $100 million, according to Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Masudur Rahman.
Speaking at a reception in Abuja to mark Bangladesh’s 54th Independence and National Day, Rahman emphasized the increasing collaboration between the two nations, driven by growing business interest and investment in key sectors.
Rahman highlighted the flourishing partnerships between Bangladesh and Nigeria in various industries, including:
1. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
2. Agriculture
3. Knitwear and textiles
4. Government-to-state trade
5. Defence cooperation
6. Diplomatic training through university partnerships
He also announced plans to expand collaboration in the blue economy, further deepening economic engagement between the two nations.

Rahman underscored the strong historical and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Africa, particularly Nigeria. He emphasized their shared commitment to equality, inclusivity, and sustainable development, highlighting the importance of bridging the digital divide and harnessing demographic diversity to drive future growth.
Representing Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Amb. Wahab Akande, Chief of Protocol, congratulated Bangladesh on its national day. He reflected on the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two nations, established in 1976, and praised their ongoing trade and economic cooperation.
Akande expressed confidence in further strengthening bilateral relations, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to fostering deeper engagements with Bangladesh.
