Reigning champions Tojemarine Handball Club are ready to begin their 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League (HPL) title defence. The first phase of the tournament kicks off from July 7 to 20 in Edo State. With determination and renewed focus, the team is gearing up to make history with their first-ever back-to-back league title.
Tojemarine standout Daniel Bello reaffirmed the team’s ambition despite losing key players. “We’re determined to retain our title. Although we’ve lost about 12 players, our training has been intense, and team spirit remains strong. We’ll give our best against every opponent,” Bello said confidently.
The tournament will begin with the arrival of teams on July 7, followed by a technical meeting on the same day. Officials will explain the rules and format in line with standards from the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Confederation of Africa Handball (CAHB). Match action starts July 8 in Benin City.
Now in its eighth edition, the 2025 Ardova HPL will feature 22 teams 12 in the men’s category and 10 in the women’s. Matches will take place across two competitive phases, using a round-robin format that guarantees exciting fixtures.
Tojemarine will open their campaign against Osun United, aiming to defend their crown with confidence and skill. This marks a pivotal moment for the team as they seek to establish themselves as a consistent force in Nigerian handball.
In the women’s division, Safety Babes are also preparing to defend their title and chase a record fifth consecutive championship.
