President Bola Tinubu has approved key licences for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project. This project is a multi-billion-dollar oil exploration in Bauchi and Gombe States.
The news was shared by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil). He spoke during the groundbreaking of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri LGA.
A statement by his media aide confirmed the approval. The move is part of plans to increase oil production nationwide.
“President Tinubu approved all needed licences to unlock the Kolmani project,” Lokpobiri said.
Energy Sector to Drive Jobs and Growth
The minister said the government is using energy resources to drive job creation, industrial growth, and higher revenue.
“Mr. President wants energy to power industries and create wealth,” he added.
Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy Launched
Lokpobiri praised Bauchi State for supporting energy development. He said the new academy will train young Nigerians for the oil and gas sector.
“Bauchi is helping to build the talent we need in the industry,” he said.
PTDF’s Role in Manpower Development
He also thanked the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). He said PTDF is helping prepare the sector for the future.
“PTDF ensures our workforce is skilled and ready,” Lokpobiri noted.
Bauchi Governor Backs Oil Academy
Governor Bala Mohammed welcomed the Federal Government’s support. He said the academy will help youth gain skills and drive innovation.
“This school will help Bauchi and all of Nigeria,” the governor said.
Kolmani Oil Drilling to Resume
The Kolmani Project began in November 2022. It was the first major oil exploration in Northern Nigeria. The site is located at Kolmani River II, between Bauchi and Gombe.
NNPCL CEO Bayo Ojulari confirmed drilling will continue soon. He said the project will reopen closed businesses and create new ones.
“We are going back to Kolmani. We will also complete the gas pipeline from Ajaokuta to Kano,” he said.
