The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on the Federal Government to address citizens’ concerns with empathy rather than punishment.
Speaking at the NASFAT History Book Launch in Abuja on August 13, 2025, the Sultan said leaders should “listen to Nigerians when they complain” instead of “flogging them with koboko” (horsewhip).
He stressed that justice must be prioritised over injustice, warning that no nation can survive when unfairness is entrenched. The Sultan also expressed concern over the poor quality of education among Nigerian youths.
While urging leaders to show fairness, he also called on citizens to pray for their leaders instead of cursing them, reminding Nigerians that tough times can be overcome through faith and unity.
“A nation can endure with unbelief, but it cannot endure with injustice,” the Sultan said, expressing hope that God will bring ease to the country.
