The Concerned Northern Youth Stakeholders have urged the Federal Government to appoint a Minister of State for Youth Development from Northern Nigeria to ensure balanced leadership and effective youth-focused policies.
In a statement released in Abuja, the group’s Coordinator, Usman Doshiro, emphasized the need for regional balance in leadership. He stated that appointing a Minister of State from the North would support youth empowerment and national unity.
“Nigeria’s youth are diverse, and equitable leadership across regions will foster national unity and inclusiveness in youth policies,” Doshiro said.
With the increasing responsibilities of the Ministry of Youth Development, stakeholders believe an additional ministerial appointment would enhance ongoing initiatives. Doshiro acknowledged Hon. Ayodele Olawande’s dedication to youth development, particularly in inclusivity, skills training, entrepreneurship, and leadership opportunities.
“Given the Ministry’s enormous responsibility, appointing a Minister of State from the North will complement Hon. Olawande’s efforts and help reach more youth, especially in rural areas,” he added.
Doshiro stressed that youth remain a crucial pillar of national development, and such an appointment would inspire participation in nation-building. He also expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises ahead of 2027.
“We appreciate the energetic leadership of Mr. Ayodele Olawande. However, to strengthen the Ministry, ensure regional balance, and expand grassroots engagement, we appeal for a Minister of State for Youth Development from Northern Nigeria,” Doshiro concluded.
This appointment could enhance youth-focused policies and reinforce the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring Nigerian youth remain actively engaged in national progress. Stakeholders remain hopeful that this appeal will be considered to drive unity, inclusivity, and meaningful development across the nation.
