Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a ₦5 billion lawsuit against Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi over alleged defamatory comments made during a TV interview.
The suit, lodged at the FCT High Court in Abuja, stems from a March 6, 2025 appearance on Channels Television, where Nwaebonyi reportedly called Akpoti-Uduaghan a “gold digger” and accused her of having six children by different men.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, described the remarks as false, malicious, and damaging to her reputation and emotional well-being. She emphasized that such statements harm not only her image but also the advancement of women in Nigerian politics.
She is seeking a public apology on Channels Television, retractions in two national newspapers, and a court order preventing any future defamatory remarks. Additionally, she requests 10% annual interest on the damages until fully paid.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about ethics, defamation, and the treatment of women in Nigeria’s political space.
