Veteran Nigerian shooting guard Sarah Ogoke may be on the verge of making a long-awaited return to the court after months of absence. The 35-year-old D’Tigress star recently sparked speculation about a comeback with a social media post suggesting she’s ready to compete again.
Ogoke, who skipped the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris for personal reasons, had previously stated that her absence wasn’t permanent. In a 2023 statement, she clarified, “I haven’t retired. This is not the last you’ll hear of me playing basketball. It wasn’t an easy situation or an easy decision.”
Now, the experienced guard seems to be preparing for a return. In a recent post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sarah Ogoke shared, “Giving birth is hard. Basketball is easy,” alongside several training clips showing her back in action. This strongly suggests her absence was due to maternity, and that she’s now focused on regaining competitive form.
A seasoned member of the Nigerian women’s basketball team, Ogoke has built an impressive career over the past decade. She has featured in seven FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournaments since 2011, capturing four gold medals in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. She also played a key role in Nigeria’s historic run to the quarter-finals of the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain and participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, held in 2021.
In addition, Ogoke earned bronze at the 2011 African Games in Mozambique and a silver medal at the 2015 edition in Congo.
With training videos now circulating and her message of intent clear, fans are hopeful that the D’Tigress stalwart will make her competitive return soon, bringing leadership, experience, and skill back to Nigeria’s national team.
