South African Airways SAA is ramping up efforts to position Mauritius as a premier travel destination for Nigerian tourists, with a focus on leisure, honeymoons, weddings, and adventure holidays. The airline made this known in a recent statement following a strategic engagement with leading travel industry CEOs in Nigeria.
The event, held as part of SAA’s broader expansion plans beyond Johannesburg, showcased Mauritius’ unique attractions, serene environment, and diverse activities. During the meeting, SAA’s Country Manager for Nigeria, Mrs. Leke Bamtefa, emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering seamless connections and quality travel experiences for Nigerians heading to the island.
“This initiative is about showing our top travel partners the immense potential Mauritius holds as a vibrant, all-in-one destination,” she stated. “With SAA’s strong connectivity and our partnership with Emotions DMC, we ensure travelers receive expert ground-handling services from arrival.”
Bamtefa also revealed plans for a familiarisation trip to Mauritius for select travel professionals. This, she said, would allow them to experience the destination first-hand and promote it more effectively to Nigerian clients.
Also present at the event was David Collard, Managing Director of Emotions Destination Management Company. He described Mauritius as a “cultural melting pot” that offers something for every type of traveler. He highlighted key tourist attractions, including barrier reef-protected waters for safe water activities, quad biking adventures in the south, and vibrant nightlife at Green Bay.
Collard added that Mauritius is visa-free for Nigerian passport holders, provided they possess essentials like travel insurance, a return ticket, pre-booked tours, and at least $100 spending money per night.
From the breathtaking UNESCO-listed Le Morne Peninsula to the Indian Ocean’s longest zip line, Mauritius offers unforgettable experiences. With SAA’s support, more Nigerian tourists are now set to explore this island paradise.
