The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden has provided essential healthcare support to underserved residents in Ikota, Lekki, Lagos, through its flagship maternal and child health programme, Project Safe Start. The initiative, executed in partnership with Orchid Road General Hospital and BioSci Health Care, focused on preventive medicine, early diagnosis, and community wellness.
Club President Christiana Okenla expressed heartfelt appreciation to all sponsors, partners, medical volunteers, and members for making the project impactful.
“Your dedication has delivered hope and healing to numerous families. Together, we have proven what compassion in action can achieve,” Okenla said.
Project Safe Start featured several high-impact interventions. Volunteers distributed 100 mosquito nets, including infant-friendly designs, to protect vulnerable households from malaria infections. The initiative also provided 50 sickle cell screening kits, supporting early detection and better health outcomes for newborns.
In addition, over 70 women received free health check‑ups, conducted by doctors and nurses from Orchid Road General Hospital. These evaluations focused on maternal wellness, preventive care, and early intervention. Complementing the healthcare services, the club launched its Dress a Dream campaign, which provided clothing for children in need, bringing relief and smiles to local families.
According to Okenla, the project reflects Rotary International’s commitment to maternal and child health and underscores the club’s mission to create long-term, positive change in underserved communities.
“You have contributed more than resources you have inspired a wave of service and upliftment. This is true Rotary in motion: real people making real impact,” she added.
The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden reaffirmed its commitment to programmes that enhance health equity, improve education access, and empower vulnerable households across Lagos and beyond.
