First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated ₦1 billion to victims of recent attacks in Plateau State, stressing that the money was raised through her Renewed Hope Initiative and not from government funds.
Speaking in Jos on July 3, 2025, Tinubu explained that the donation was part of her effort to support vulnerable Nigerians, saying it would be “greed” to use personally raised resources for selfish gain.
“If I kept money for personal gain, it would only serve to satisfy greed. My goal is to use the resources I have for good,” she said.
“Not Government Money”: Tinubu Clarifies Funding Source
The First Lady made it clear that the funds came from her initiative, not public coffers.
“Please understand that the money I have for this initiative is not government funds. It is money I have personally raised to help others,” she emphasized.
She also called on traditional leaders to take an active role in restoring peace to Plateau State, noting that while public officials come and go, traditional rulers remain custodians of the land.
Calls for Unity and a Safer Nigeria
Oluremi Tinubu spoke emotionally about her travels across Nigeria and her deep love for the country, recalling her time in Kano during NYSC. She said no Nigerian child should live in fear or hesitate to explore the nation due to insecurity.
“We need to secure Nigeria so that our children can travel freely,” she urged.
