Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed the team’s strong determination to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. As they prepare for the 2024 edition scheduled to hold in Morocco from July 5 to 26.
Nigeria, drawn in Group B, will face Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in the group stage. The Falcons will kick off their campaign on July 6 against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Speaking during The Super Falcons Show. Ajibade shared the team’s mindset and called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place.
“There’s a lot of confidence in camp and we’re committed to our goal,” Rasheedat Ajibade stated. “Every player going to the tournament wants to compete and win. We’ll give everything on the pitch, but we also know success relies on both internal efforts and external support.”
The Super Falcons recently regrouped for the first time since November 2024. Having missed two international windows earlier in the year. In a recent friendly against Cameroon, the Nigerian team secured a 2-0 win, with Ajibade netting both goals.
Although the match was initially planned as a two-legged fixture. It concluded as a single friendly played in Abeokuta.
Despite the limited preparation time. The Super Falcons remain Africa’s top-ranked women’s football team and are aiming to reclaim the title they last won in 2018.
Ajibade’s remarks reflect growing calls for the NFF to provide stronger logistical and financial backing to the team ahead of the tournament.
With their sights set on gold. The Super Falcons are not only focused on making Nigeria proud. They are sending a strong message across the continent that they remain a powerhouse in African women’s football.
