Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has declared his willingness to serve just one term if a 2027 opposition coalition demands it.
Speaking during a widely attended XSpace session tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, Obi said:
“If the agreement is one term, I’ll leave on May 28, 2031, not even May 29. I’m not desperate to be president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work.”
The live event, which attracted over 10,000 listeners, focused on national issues like insecurity, economic hardship, and the need for a united political front ahead of the next general election.
No Deal with Atiku, Coalition Must Prioritize Citizens
Obi dismissed rumours of a joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying no such talks were ongoing.
“If the coalition is about sharing tickets and power for its sake, count me out,” he said. “I want a coalition that ends killings in Borno, feeds people, and revives our industries.”
He stressed that political alliances must prioritize Nigerians, not politicians.
Zoning, Discipline, and Nation First
Reaffirming his support for zoning and coalition discipline, Obi said his goal isn’t power but nation-building.
“It’s not about rejection or ambition. We’ve never discussed tickets. It’s about Nigeria first.”
His message: unity is key, but only if it serves the people, not the political elite.
