The National Sports Commission (NSC) has debunked speculation about unpaid bonuses for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, confirming that all outstanding match payments were cleared before their final Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash against Morocco.
Olopade Reassures Team and Fans
Speaking on Arise TV, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade stated, “All their bonuses have been paid. I spoke with [team captain] Rasheedat Ajibade yesterday and the Nigeria Football Federation; everyone is on the same page.”
Banking Delays for a Few Players
Olopade noted that only one or two players may still be awaiting payments due to banking delays involving the Central Bank of Nigeria.
$100,000 Presidential Reward to Be Honoured
He assured that President Bola Tinubu’s promised $100,000 reward to the team would be honoured without delay.
Housing Promise Underway
The NSC is collaborating with the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative to ensure the Falcons receive their promised houses promptly. “We don’t joke with the remuneration and welfare of athletes,” Olopade stressed.
Response to Ajibade’s Concerns
His comments respond directly to Ajibade’s earlier statement that bonuses and presidential pledges had yet to be fulfilled. The NSC maintains that all core match bonuses are settled, and remaining issues are purely administrative.
Commitment to Athlete Welfare
With the $100,000 reward and housing allocation underway, Nigerian football fans await the full delivery of the President’s pledge to the record-winning women’s team.
