The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced new restrictions on its NIN self-service modification portal, limiting account access to the original browser and device used during registration.
In a statement released by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC emphasized that each user’s account is now tied to a specific browser-device combination. Attempting to log in with a different setup or clearing browser cache may lock users out.
“You are permitted a maximum of five unlock attempt requests. No further requests will be processed after this limit,” NIMC warned.
These security measures aim to protect users’ identities and prevent unauthorized access.
Updated NIN Modification Costs (2025)
NIMC also announced a price increase for modifying personal data on the NIN database:
- Date of Birth Correction: ₦28,574 (up from ₦16,340)
- Other Data Changes (Name, Address, etc.): ₦2,000 (up from ₦1,522)
- NIN Slip Reissuance: ₦600 (up from ₦500)
- Premium Services: ₦20,000 (Visa lounges), ₦3,500 (VIP slip)
For Nigerians in the diaspora, adult enrolment costs $50, while date of birth correction costs $55.
The commission said this adjustment aligns with current operational costs after maintaining old rates for over a decade.
What Users Should Do
- Use only the device and browser used at registration
- Avoid clearing cache or switching browsers
- Follow NIMC’s guidelines to avoid account lockouts or service delays
The NIN self-service portal remains a valuable tool for updating records, but users must now take extra care to avoid losing access.
