The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) aims to enroll 95% of Nigerians into the National Identity Database by December 2025, according to Director-General Abisoye Coker-Odusote.
As of May 2025, over 120 million Nigerians have been registered. The commission plans to capture another 100 million through a nationwide Ward Enrollment Exercise, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on digital governance.
Coker-Odusote emphasized that improved infrastructure, expanded registration centers, and public awareness campaigns will drive the mass enrollment.
To boost public trust and data protection, NIMC has:
- Introduced NIN Authentication with user consent controls.
- Partnered with security agencies to combat fake NIN websites.
- Teamed up with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to certify data handlers.
The commission also plans to launch Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to enhance digital trust among government agencies and enable secure e-governance across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
