Legendary Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga, has shared a candid reflection on staying true to himself in an industry dominated by younger, trending artistes. In a recent interview with Jay On Air, posted on Instagram on Monday, the 43‑year‑old hip‑hop star revealed how he continues to thrive without feeling pressured by the changing music landscape.
M.I Abaga openly acknowledged the rise of Odumodublvck, Shallipopi, Falz, Ladipoe, and Blaqbonez, applauding their creativity and the energy they bring to Nigerian music. However, he made it clear that their success does not undermine his artistry or legacy.
“In terms of comparing myself to artistes that are hot, I truly don’t feel that pressure,” he said. “What matters to me is how good you are. I’m not Davido, I’m not Wizkid. They’re in their red‑hot moment. I’m M.I, and I don’t see that I’ve lost anything.”
Transitioning to his personal life, the rap veteran shared how his lifestyle and financial choices have evolved. He disclosed that he once owned six luxury cars, but now prioritizes practicality and purpose over excess. He no longer splurges on business‑class flights, instead directing resources to meaningful responsibilities.
“My wife and I travel to America often, but I can’t justify business class on my own dime,” he explained. “I live in Nigeria, where people need money. I have staff with real needs. My priorities have shifted to support family and staff.”
Through his words, M.I Abaga highlights that success is not just about fame or luxury but about impact, responsibility, and authenticity. His journey proves that true legacy in music is built on purpose, not competition.
