In a decisive move to improve environmental sanitation and public health, the Lagos State Government has sealed 13 markets across the state for repeated violations related to illegal waste disposal.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the enforcement on Friday via his official X handle. The action aligns with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, which mandates proper waste management in public spaces.
Ketu and Mile 12 markets were among the key locations shut down due to persistent waste dumping on roads, medians, and highways posing health risks and obstructing traffic.
“These actions are necessary to restore public hygiene and safeguard residents’ health,” Wahab said, urging market stakeholders to take full responsibility moving forward.
