Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Kylian Mbappe can become a club legend like Cristiano Ronaldo. The French star, who idolized Ronaldo, has already matched his 33-goal tally in his debut season after joining from Paris Saint-Germain.
“I hope Mbappe achieves what Ronaldo did I believe he can,” Ancelotti said. “That would make him a legend.”
Ronaldo, who joined Madrid in 2009, left in 2018 as the club’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals. Now at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he scored 33 goals in 35 matches in his first season—an achievement Mbappe has equaled.
After scoring twice against Leganes, the 26-year-old called it “very special” to match Ronaldo’s record. “We speak often, and he gives me advice,” Mbappe told Real Madrid TV.
With Madrid still competing for three major trophies, Mbappe has the chance to surpass Ronaldo’s record. Ancelotti’s squad hosts Real Sociedad on Tuesday for the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, leading 1-0.
A cup win would make Ancelotti the first Madrid coach to claim it three times. “Being close to a final is a huge motivation,” he said. “With our fans behind us, we are even more motivated.”
Mbappe’s standout season strengthens his case as a future Real Madrid legend.
