The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has officially shortlisted 1,800 successful applicants for teaching appointments across senior secondary schools in the state. This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to strengthen education in Kwara State by addressing staffing gaps in schools.
According to a press release by the Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, the shortlisted candidates were selected after a rigorous three-month screening process, which included a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and comprehensive interviews.
Breakdown of Shortlisted Candidates
The 1,800 successful applicants are categorized based on subject specialization:
- STEM Subjects: 790 candidates (44%)
- Core Subjects: 581 candidates
- Specialized Subjects: 370 candidates
- Technical Subjects: 59 candidates
These teachers will be deployed to senior secondary schools across all 16 local government areas of Kwara State. The placements are based on a thorough needs assessment conducted by TESCOM.
Mandatory Drug Test Begins April 9
In a move to ensure the quality and integrity of education, all shortlisted candidates must undergo a mandatory drug test conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This process is coordinated by Hon. Mukail Aileru, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control.
Drug Test Schedule:
- Wednesday, April 9: Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Patigi
- Thursday, April 10: Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin
- Friday, April 11: Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, Moro
- Saturday, April 12: Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West
Candidates are advised to check their status via the official TESCOM recruitment portal.
Note: Drug test results will be submitted directly to TESCOM by the NDLEA. Candidates are not permitted to access the certificates to prevent tampering.
Documentation Requirements and Conditions of Service
As part of the onboarding process, shortlisted candidates must present the following during documentation:
- Original and photocopies of academic credentials
- A medical certificate from a recognized state government hospital
- A handwritten letter of acceptance
- A signed bond committing to remain in the posting location for six years, particularly to address the shortage of teachers in rural areas
