The Kwara State government has launched a mass deworming campaign targeting 776,896 children aged 5 to 14 across 15 local government areas.
Speaking at the flag-off event at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin, Commissioner for Health Dr. Amina El-Imam emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting children from preventable diseases. She noted that while the campaign involves administering deworming tablets, it also promotes clean water, better sanitation, and hygiene education.
Oke-Ero Local Government is excluded from the exercise as it is not endemic for Schistosomiasis.
Lawmakers and health officials praised the initiative and urged parents and schools to support it. The programme is supported by development partners, including Sight Savers, which has operated in the state for over 30 years.
