Landlords and residents of four communities in Okoerin ward, Ilorin West, Kwara State, have rejected new hotels and alcohol joints.
The affected areas are Ifesowapo, Alalubarika, Osere, and Okoerin.
Why the Communities Object
Speaking to NAN, Alhaji Abdulwahab Opeloyeru, Chairman of Ifesowapo and spokesperson for the groups, said the decision followed a security meeting.
He explained that the meeting came after work began on a hotel project in the crowded neighborhood.
Security and Social Concerns
Opeloyeru said hotels and alcohol joints pose security risks and could mislead young people.
“A hotel here will fuel social vices and disturb the peace,” he noted.
Residents Oppose Ongoing Construction
The landlords and residents are united in opposition. They have met the hotel owner to show their displeasure.
They believe the project will disrupt peace and attract crime.
Communities Alert Authorities
The residents have reported the matter to the Kwara Police Command and the State Town Planning Authority.
They said this action aims to secure peace in Ifesowapo, Alalubarika, Osere, and Okoerin.
Key Reasons for Rejection
- Hotels may raise crime rates.
- Alcohol joints could harm youth morals.
- The area is too densely populated for nightlife.
