Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has firmly denied claims made by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Over an alleged breach of security protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
On Wednesday, FAAN confirmed it had opened an investigation into an incident involving KWAM 1 during the boarding process for ValueJet Flight VK 201 headed to Lagos on August 5, 2025. The agency alleged that the musician attempted to board the flight with a liquid-filled flask. Violating international aviation safety rules that prohibit carrying liquids over 100ml in hand luggage.
According to FAAN, KWAM 1 refused to comply with Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers. He reportedly poured the contents of the flask believed to be alcohol on a security official. The situation escalated, leading to his removal from the aircraft by security personnel.
In response, KWAM 1’s media aide, Kunle Rasheed, described the allegations as misleading and exaggerated. He clarified that the flask only contained plain drinking water provided at the airport lounge. Despite efforts to explain, the matter allegedly escalated without justification.
The statement further revealed that senior officials, including representatives from the airline and airport security, later reached out to the artiste with apologies. They even arranged a private jet to transport him to Lagos an offer KWAM 1 declined respectfully.
KWAM 1’s team also disclosed that the pilot involved in the incident has had her license suspended, suggesting an attempt to shift blame.
FAAN, however, reaffirmed its commitment to upholding aviation safety and insists the investigation will continue. The authority emphasized that any individual found violating protocolregardless of status will be held accountable.
