Political party leaders in Kano State have signed a peace accord to ensure a peaceful, violence-free, and credible process during the upcoming by-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Kano State Police Command Headquarters in Bompai. The meeting was convened by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, and attended by candidates and leaders of various political parties contesting in the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency re-run and the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the peace accord is aimed at fostering political tolerance, ensuring compliance with electoral laws, and preventing violence before, during, and after the polls.
“During the meeting, a Peace Accord was signed by all parties in attendance, committing to peaceful and violence-free conduct throughout the electoral process,” Haruna stated.
Commissioner Bakori urged political actors to adhere strictly to the terms of the agreement, warning that any breach of peace or electoral law would attract swift and decisive action from security agencies.
He assured the public of adequate security deployment across the affected constituencies, stressing that law enforcement officers would be on ground to safeguard voters, election officials, and political party agents.
The commissioner also appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to achieve a free, fair, and credible election.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and creating a secure environment where citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
