The management of Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan has warned students against staging a protest today over the school’s recent renaming.
In a Monday statement, Acting Registrar Joseph Ogunjimi urged parents to caution their wards against any disruptive action.
Students Oppose Name Change to Honour Late Governor
Governor Seyi Makinde renamed the institution after late ex-Governor Omololu Olunloyo, who died at 89. The change sparked student protests last Tuesday, halting academic activities.
Protesters marched to the Governor’s Office at Agodi Secretariat, demanding the school revert to its former name.
Students Say They Were Not Consulted
Students held placards reading “Revert The Name Now” and “Our Identity, Our Pride.” They claimed the government failed to consult them and ignored the school’s heritage.
Management Warns Against Locking Gates
The school warned students against blocking campus gates or causing unrest. The statement, titled “Poly Management Cautions Students’ Union On Planned Protest,” said such actions defy school and government authority.
“Any protest that disrupts peace or operations won’t be tolerated,” the statement read.
Security Agencies Deployed to Maintain Order
The management said it had mobilized security agencies and campus guards to prevent any disturbance.
It urged parents to speak with their children and avoid actions that could lead to disciplinary or legal consequences
