Glovo, a leading technology-driven multi-category platform, has powered Nigerian businesses with over ₦71 billion in revenue since launching operations in 2021. Mrs. Lamide Akinola, General Manager of Glovo Nigeria, shared this achievement at the 2025 Future of Commerce Summit held in Lagos.
The summit brought together innovators, industry leaders, fintech pioneers, digital marketers, policymakers, and investors to explore the rapidly evolving commerce landscape in Nigeria.
Glovo Strengthens Africa’s Delivery Ecosystem
Since entering the African market in 2017, Glovo has channeled over €200 million into building and scaling its delivery ecosystem across the continent. In Nigeria alone, the platform now supports more than 6,000 shops and restaurants, helping small and medium-sized businesses thrive in the digital economy.
According to Akinola, Glovo acts as the first gateway to the online marketplace for many local businesses, accelerating their digital transformation.
“In 2024, our quick commerce segment grew by an impressive 76%, making it the fastest-growing area on our platform,” Akinola stated. “This clearly demonstrates Glovo’s role in driving digital retail expansion and enabling inclusive economic growth.”
Driving the Shift to a Cashless Economy
Glovo has also played a significant role in supporting Nigeria’s transition to a cashless economy. Since 2021, cash transactions on the Glovo app have declined from 88% to just 39%, marking a 55% decrease in just three years.
This shift reflects broader national efforts to promote financial inclusion and digital payments. Akinola emphasized Glovo’s impact, saying:
“We’re not just delivering orders—we’re helping businesses grow smarter through data, logistics, and access to financial tools.”
Lagos Government Champions Digital, Inclusive Commerce
Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, highlighted the state’s efforts to build a people-centered digital economy. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through strategic collaborations with platforms like Glovo.
“With these partnerships, we’re closing the financing gap for small businesses, creating jobs, and fostering long-term resilience in our economy,” Ambrose-Medebem said. “Our goal is a 21st-century Lagos where no business is left behind.”
Celebrating Excellence in Glovo’s Ecosystem
As part of the summit, Glovo honored outstanding contributors across its network:
- City Subs earned the Best Rated Partner award for consistently receiving top customer reviews.
- Christian Ogbu and Bija Samson received the Veteran Rider awards for delivering the highest number of completed orders with excellence and dedication.
Looking Ahead: Scaling Innovation and Impact
Glovo remains committed to empowering local partners by offering access to digital tools, logistics infrastructure, and financial services that support sustainable growth. As Nigeria’s digital economy expands, Glovo continues to act as a catalyst for innovation, job creation, and inclusive commerce.
