The Oyo State Government has launched a large-scale malaria prevention campaign. Distributing over five million insecticide-treated mosquito nets across all 33 local government areas. The initiative aims to protect vulnerable populations. Particularly pregnant women and children under five, from the deadly impact of malaria.
The official flag-off ceremony took place at Idi-Ogungun Primary Health Care Centre, Agodi Gate, in Ibadan North Local Government Area. According to Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the distribution exercise reflects the government’s commitment to improving public health and reducing malaria-related deaths.
During the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, emphasized that the nets are essential, life-saving tools when used correctly. She cautioned residents against misusing the mosquito nets for non-health purposes, such as fishing, gardening, window coverings, or market displays.
Dr. Ajetunmobi further explained that the insecticide-treated nets are made of breathable and lightweight materials. Ensuring comfort during sleep in well-ventilated rooms. She warned that hoarding, diverting, or selling the nets is illegal and would attract legal consequences.
The commissioner encouraged mothers and pregnant women to consistently tuck their children inside the nets every night. She stressed that proper and regular use of the nets could drastically reduce malaria infections, hospital visits, and preventable deaths.
To ensure no household is left out, the government will conduct mop-up exercises after the official distribution period, which runs from August 1 to 7, 2025. Nets are being distributed through fixed-point delivery sites, with electronic tracking systems deployed to enhance transparency, accountability, and full coverage.
By distributing over five million insecticide-treated mosquito nets, Oyo State reinforces its determination to fight malaria and safeguard the health of its residents through preventive care.
