Defending champions Team Delta have entered closed camp with over 600 athletes in preparation for the ninth edition of the National Youth Games (NYG), set to hold in Asaba from August 26 to September 6.
According to officials, athletes are currently camped at St. Brigid’s School, the Delta Sports Commission hostel, and the hockey hostel in Okpanam. The final list of participants who will represent Delta at the games will be announced later this week.
“We have over 600 athletes in three different camps right now,” said Festus Ohwojero of the Local Organising Committee.
Meanwhile, Team Bayelsa impressed at the South-South zonal eliminations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, fielding 250 athletes across 10 sports. They dominated in basketball and football, securing qualification spots for the upcoming championship.
The National Youth Games 2025 promises strong competition as states prepare to showcase young talent in various sporting events.
