At exactly 9:40 AM today, the historic Cocoa House in Ibadan marked its 60th anniversary with a symbolic and emotional balloon release ceremony. Held at the reception frontage, car park, and rooftop of the iconic building, the event drew dignitaries, staff, and observers who gathered to honor six decades of legacy, pride, and progress.
Cocoa House, built in 1965 with proceeds from cocoa exports, remains a symbol of Western Nigeria’s visionary leadership and economic strength. Once the tallest building in West Africa, it stands today as a monument to resilience and innovation.
The commemorative balloon release was led by members of the Odu’a Investment Company Limited board at strategic points across the premises. The colorful balloons ascending into the sky created a moving visual that many described as “beautiful and inspiring.”
“It was exciting seeing the balloons rise above a building that tells our story,” said one attendee.
The ceremony wasn’t just a celebration, it was a reminder of the power of vision, the importance of legacy, and the promise of the future. Despite setbacks like the 1985 fire incident, Cocoa House has stood tall, restored and reimagined.
As it turns 60, Cocoa House continues to serve as a beacon of enterprise and cultural pride, a landmark that reminds us of where we’ve been, and where we’re going.
Happy 60th Anniversary, Cocoa House!
