Has officially confirmed his defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The confirmation came via a statement shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday. Putting an end to weeks of intense speculation.
Sumaila, a prominent northern lawmaker. Emphasized that his decision was guided by his dedication to serving his constituents. According to him, “All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency.” He further stated that his aim is to fully commit himself to addressing the needs of his people and ensuring their long-term development.
The senator’s switch to the APC marks a significant political realignment in Kano State. And has already sparked reactions within the political space.
Notably, his defection has intensified rumors surrounding the possible return of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former NNPP presidential candidate, to the APC.

Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, and the PDP structure in the state, also joined the APC.
