Popular Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, has taken to social media to share a shocking experience where he fell victim to an online romance scam, losing $990 to a fraudster. In a recent post on his Instagram, Bobrisky expressed his disbelief and disappointment, revealing how he was tricked by a scammer who pretended to be genuinely interested in him.
How the Scam Unfolded
According to Bobrisky, the scammer first reached out to him through direct messages on social media, where they began chatting regularly. Over the course of several months, the scammer claimed to be residing in the United States before allegedly relocating to Canada. Bobrisky mentioned that the scammer maintained frequent communication, calling almost every day and showing interest in his life.
“I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody. This guy came to my DM, and we got talking — close to a few months now. He calls me almost every day. He said he lived in the USA but moved to Canada,” Bobrisky wrote on Instagram.
The Moment of Deception
The situation took a turn when Bobrisky received a message from a client in the U.S. who wanted to make a payment for an advertisement. The client requested to pay through CashApp, and Bobrisky turned to the scammer for assistance, asking him to help receive the payment. The scammer agreed, offering to provide his CashApp details.
However, once the payment was made, the scammer immediately blocked Bobrisky, disappearing with the $990.
“Few weeks later, someone in the USA reached out for ads. She said she needed a Cash App to pay her deposit, and I asked this guy talking to me. He said he would give me his own. As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately,” Bobrisky explained.
Bobrisky’s Warning to Fans
In his post, Bobrisky shared screenshots of the conversations and a photo of the alleged scammer, urging his followers to remain vigilant and cautious when interacting online. He warned them to avoid falling for similar scams and to always be cautious when communicating with strangers.
This incident highlights the importance of safeguarding personal information and being cautious of online interactions, especially when financial transactions are involved.
