At least 16 people were killed during a bandit attack on Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on Saturday, April 6, 2025.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that armed men, suspected to be from the Lakurawa gang, stormed the villages around 6:00 PM, stealing cattle and clashing with residents in a deadly encounter.
Police Public Relations Officer CSP Nafiu Abubakar revealed that the attackers came in large numbers, leaving devastation in their wake.
Authorities Respond with Swift Action
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, strongly condemned the violence and assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. He confirmed the deployment of joint tactical forces, including police, military, civil defense, and local vigilantes to the scene.
“We remain committed to ending banditry in Kebbi State. All available resources are being mobilized to ensure justice,” CP Sani stated.
Normalcy has reportedly returned to the affected communities, while a full investigation is underway.
The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing security operations, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
