Rising teenage boxing star and West African Boxing Union light-welterweight champion. Raheem “Badoo” Animashaun, has boldly declared himself the best boxer in Nigeria. The 17-year-old sensation made the statement after securing a dominant technical knockout victory over Gboja Jean Coffi of Benin Republic at GOTV Boxing Night 33, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
With the win, Animashaun extended his unbeaten professional record to 15 victories. Including nine knockouts, since turning pro in February 2024. The fight ended in the third round after Coffi sustained an injury and could no longer continue. Despite the convincing win, Animashaun expressed disappointment that the bout ended prematurely, limiting his opportunity to showcase his full arsenal of skills.
“This wasn’t my best performance,” Animashaun admitted. “My opponent didn’t push me enough. I want tougher challenges that allow me to show everything I’ve got.”
When asked about not receiving the Best Fighter award of the night. The confident UNILAG law student shrugged it off, saying, “Titles don’t define me. I know I’m the best in Nigeria. Anyone who disagrees should face me in the ring.”
Balancing boxing and academics is no easy feat, yet Animashaun excels at both. From being an assistant head boy in secondary school to now studying law at the University of Lagos. He credits discipline and purpose for his dual success.
The Mushin-born boxer, badoo is calling for greater support and opportunities from top-tier clubs and promoters as he eyes continental and global titles.
“I’m ready for bigger fights. I need people who see true talent to support me. I never back down from a challenge,” he stated confidently.
With his unwavering drive and unmatched ambition, Raheem Animashaun is undoubtedly a force to watch on the Nigerian and African boxing scene.
