The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested former Nigerian footballer Segun George Hunkarin and businessman Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country. According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, 37 wraps of cocaine weighing 800 grams were discovered in Chinedu’s hand luggage. Investigations revealed he had picked up the package in Addis Ababa while en route from Turkey. Hunkarin, who was waiting to collect the consignment at the airport carpark, was also arrested. The ex-footballer, who played professionally in Brazil, admitted to previously trafficking drugs from Brazil…
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has criticized the ongoing weather disruptions at the Club World Cup, calling the repeated delays “a joke” after his team’s 4-1 win over Benfica was halted for nearly two hours due to storm warnings. The match, which eventually ended after 4 hours and 39 minutes, saw Chelsea advance to the quarter-finals. A late goal by Reece James had put Chelsea ahead before the game was suspended due to lightning protocols common in the United States. “It’s not football. You can’t stop six or seven games in one tournament and call that normal,” Maresca said. “It breaks…
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a group of wealthy investors is ready to purchase TikTok, the popular video-sharing app owned by China’s ByteDance. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “We have a buyer for TikTok… very wealthy people. I’ll name them in about two weeks.” The potential sale follows growing pressure from U.S. lawmakers, who have raised national security concerns about TikTok’s data handling. Many are pushing for a ban or forced sale of the app’s U.S. operations. Trump also suggested the deal might need approval from Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding, “I think President…
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun internal consultations to appoint a new national chairman after the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Ganduje stepped down last week, citing urgent personal reasons, less than a year after taking over from Abdullahi Adamu in August 2023. APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirmed during a Channels TV interview that the party is moving quickly to fill the leadership vacuum. “We will take steps immediately to fill that vacancy,” Morka said. Although no date has been fixed for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Morka stated that arrangements are underway and the…
In a shocking verdict, the High Court in Lafia has sentenced gospel singer Oluwatimileyin “Timileyin” Ajayi to death by hanging for the brutal murder and dismemberment of 24-year-old NYSC member Salome Adaidu. Presiding judge Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Northern Nigeria Penal Code. The crime occurred on January 12, 2025, at Ajayi’s residence in Papalana, New Karshi, where he was accused of killing Adaidu before attempting to dispose of her severed body, a horrifying act that shocked the nation. Salome, who was serving at Nicon Insurance, Abuja, was laid to rest…
Popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), staged a protest on Monday, June 23, at the residence of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, demanding urgent action over the prolonged strike by primary school teachers. The protest, sparked by the 90-day shutdown of primary schools in Abuja, saw VDM gather uniformed pupils outside the minister’s gate. He conducted a mock classroom session, sarcastically reciting: “S for Suegbe, T for Tinubu, W for Wike,” a dramatic jab aimed at government leaders for their inaction. The ongoing strike began on March 24, 2025, due to the failure…
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied claims that it extended the service year of Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, in retaliation for her viral TikTok video criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and calling Lagos a “smelling state.” Raye’s video, posted via her handle @talktoraye, sparked controversy online for its bold critique of Nigeria’s living conditions and leadership. She later alleged that NYSC officials pressured her to take down the video and even threatened her safety. Amid rising attention, activist Omoyele Sowore claimed the NYSC had extended her service year by two months over her statements. He vowed…
The Senate has confirmed Michael Odey as Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) despite heated opposition over his non-indigene status. Tensions flared during the consideration of the Ad-Hoc Committee’s report on the Rivers State emergency rule, as lawmakers questioned the decision to nominate someone from Cross River State to oversee elections in Rivers. Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro criticized the move, calling it ethically questionable, especially following the earlier appointment of a non-Rivers sole administrator. He was backed by Senators Abdul Ningi and Ali Ndume, who emphasized the need to respect federal character and local representation. “It…
