The Police Command in Anambra State has commended residents for resisting the Monday sit-at-home order enforced by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South East.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Awka, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, praised the residents for their resilience and commitment to restoring normalcy.
The illegal sit-at-home directive has caused significant disruption to socioeconomic and academic activities across the region.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized that the police had intensified security measures to combat insecurity and maintain peace. Among these measures is the Police Safe School Initiative (PSSI), a proactive strategy aimed at safeguarding schools, students, teachers, and staff.
“I want to thank the people of Anambra for standing up against the illegal sit-at-home order, thereby improving socioeconomic activities,” Orutugu said.
He further highlighted the negative impact of the sit-at-home order on daily life and reassured residents that security agencies had increased their presence on the streets, particularly on Mondays, to ensure public safety.
Orutugu urged residents to go about their daily activities without fear of harassment, emphasizing that law enforcement remains committed to protecting lives and property.
