The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the promotion of 30 senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). To the esteemed rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections (ACG). The promotion exercise reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to merit-based advancement, professional excellence. And also strengthening leadership within the nation’s correctional system.
The announcement came in a press statement issued on Tuesday by NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubakar. He confirmed that the promotions were approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) after a rigorous selection process.
According to the statement, 27 general duty officers were elevated. In recognition of their exceptional dedication, leadership skills, and operational competence across various correctional formations nationwide. Additionally, three professional officers were promoted for their specialized contributions in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.
The promotion exercise aligns with ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Correctional Service. A key component of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The statement credited the reform drive to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Whose efforts in restructuring and motivating the service were described as unwavering and unprecedented.
In his congratulatory message, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche. Further urged the newly promoted officers to embrace their new responsibilities with renewed dedication.
He charged them to focus on strategic leadership and the core mandates of inmate reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration. Emphasizing that the promotion is not just a reward for past service. It is a call to higher responsibility in line with global best practices in corrections.
With these promotions, the NCoS aims to build a motivated, disciplined, and professional workforce. This will be capable of meeting the complex demands of modern corrections and enhancing public safety nationwide.
